Approaching Lymington
(Isle of Wight Ferry) Pier
The following is a series of 4 screen captures.
6a.GIF (3687 bytes)

Note the range is set to 495 ft.  not a normal range for 14 ft. of water, but note the flat bottom to 99 ft. ahead!

The two blips at 40m and 70m are two boats, or their prop wash, passing in front.

The quay wall is clearly shown at 110m (363 ft.) ahead!

6b.GIF (4013 bytes)

Getting closer. Note the scale change to 100m.

Solid echo form the quay at 80m (264 ft!)

Harbormaster's launch passed 95' in front of us, wondering what we were doing.

6c.GIF (4317 bytes)

Closer range chosen 40m (132').

Note the boat icon increases in size as the scale is decreased.

The depression at 15m is the bottom scouring by the ferry Voith's propellers!

6d.GIF (5076 bytes)

Range down to 20m (66')

Excellent view of the scouring directly in front of us and the dredging at 12m (40')

Look carefully at the wall. It is spaced wooden cladding in front of the steel shutter pilings. Look closely and you can see both!

7b.GIF (4994 bytes)

Note the remarkable detail.

Remember, the EchoPilot can be set for feet or meters so please don't let the meter readings concern you.

7c.GIF (4648 bytes)

The boat is approaching a mud bank. Notice the edge of the salt marshes adjacent to Lymington Yacht Haven.
